Time for students to grade their professors

It’s that time of year that Salt Lake Community College is asking students to complete class evaluations but many don’t do them and many students have no idea what they are for and just how important they really are.

Evaluations help to give feedback to the professors so they can improve in areas where there were issues that needed attention. It is also used as a way to let adminstration and the teacher know how well they are doing. Teaching styles can either help or hurt a student’s overall experience in their classes.

College administrators also use the information to understand how students feel about their instructors. Their job is to make sure they have instructors who are supportive of their students, and encourage their growth during their time here at SLCC.

For those of you who have experienced a teacher that was difficult to work with, hard to understand and unwilling to help you, these evaluations will help identify teachers others would want to avoid. You could possibly help another student considering taking that class from selecting a teacher who doesn’t work well with students,

It also helps recognize teachers who are wonderful instructors. Most of them want to help you, and they want you to succeed. But when we don’t fill out the evaluations, those teachers do not get recognized for the great work they do.

You can complete these evaluations in a very short amount of time. The link to the evaluations are found on your student MyPage.

Another great tool to evaluate your teachers is a website called “Rate My Professor.”

The website allows you to rate your professor in different areas and allows you to give honest feedback. It is designed to help others considering taking a class by a possibly difficult instructor. You can find out what other students have to say about the instructor’s style of teaching,

This site, along with the SLCC teacher evaluations are there to ensure a positive and memorable experience at SLCC.
