There is one department on campus whose goal is to point Salt Lake Community College students in the right direction.

From picking out a class schedule to transferring to another college, the Academic and Career Advising department has trained and experienced advisors who can develop a personalized road map to success for any student.

DegreeWorks
Students can use the “What If” scenario on DegreeWorks to explore current or prospective academic programs. Sign in to MyPage and look for DegreeWorks under the Student tab.

Getting help is both convenient and free. Students can talk to an academic advisor — either general education or program specific — by appointment, walk-in, phone or email.

Online advising

For students who can’t find time on campus to set appointments or wait as a walk-in, SLCC offers online advising services via email and live chat.

Online advising has existed for several years and has been successful in helping a number of students with a wide range of needs.

While the live chat is limited to two hours per day Monday through Thursday, students can email questions in advance for the online advisor to research.

What to ask the online advisor

Students must provide their name and the degree they seek along with their question. Emailed questions will be responded to within 48 business hours.

For students who want transcript or degree evaluation information, an Information Release Form may be required to ensure that privacy is protected in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, aka FERPA. Students send the completed form to their advisor via email.

Anyone with questions for Academic and Career Advising can call 801-957-4978.
