A little ingenuity from a dedicated fan shone through at the “Decade” music video premiere party last Thursday.

A handmade neon sign with the words “Eminent Sol” took on a curious life of its own and instantly became a welcome crowd-pleaser. The sign was made by John Peterson, a fan from Springville.

“I got the idea four hours ago,” says Peterson.

Whether walking around the event and cradling it like a human billboard for the band or placing it at the foot of the stage like an altar offering, the sign seemed to take on presence all by itself.

Peterson says prior to the premiere he was having lunch with some friends and the idea for the sign just popped into his head and he came up with a plan.

“I bought the EL wire at Radio Shack. I had to paint the corrugated plastic black and that took the longest to dry. It cost about $7 for the wire and I just put black tape on it — like they do when they black things out on neon signs.”
