looking for jobs on a search engine

Salt Lake Community College paves the way for students to build a career in the field of their choice. But there are also on-campus resources available to help students get a job while in school.

Career and Student Employment Services can help any student build a resume, find the perfect starter job and prepare for interviews.

“Our mission is to provide and enhance student career exploration and career development,” says Career and Student Employment Services director Jackie Hesleph.

Student Employment system change
A new system is in place as of June 15, 2015. All students and alumni who registered prior to this date will need to re-register for services.

To re-register:
1. Log on to MyPage.
2. Under the Student tab, find the Student Resources section.
3. Click on the Careers and Employment link.
4. Fill out the registration form.

Any students or alumni with questions can call Career and Student Employment Services at 801-957-4014.

Job listings

Many students struggle to find a flexible job that fits around their schedule, or a job in their field after graduation. SLCC has made the job search as easy as clicking a button.

Career and Student Employment Services keeps an updated list of job openings in almost every field. Thousands of SLCC students and alumni take advantage of this service each year.

Work for credit program

Career and Student Employment Services organizes a work for credit program that allows SLCC students to earn college credit while on the job.

Most students who have a job or internship that applies to their major course of study may be able use that work experience in a 2000-level cooperative education course. Students must contact an advisor to determine if they qualify.

LinkedIn
Career and Student Employment Services offers a LinkedIn workshop which shows students how to use the site to build their personal brand.

Workshops

Career and Employment Services provide a host of workshops that are designed to make students more employable.

Career exploration workshops let students learn about job markets that are on the rise and fields that show promise for a meaningful career. Students are able to discuss these trends and other career pathway decisions with advisors.

Student Employment advisors also help students and alumni develop solid resumes and evaluate interviewing and presentation skills. Students and alumni may set up a one-on-one appointment with an advisor to practice interviewing skills and receive feedback.

Advisors can also assist with personal marketing through online sites such as LinkedIn, as well as using online search tools to find a desired job.

Career and Student Employment Services is known for offering referrals to over 1,400 employers who post more than 10,000 jobs per year.

“Students who take advantage of our services [early on] find our services beneficial in gaining employment while attending SLCC and in all stages of their employment journey,” says Hesleph.
