For the first time in Salt Lake Community College history both the men’s and women’s basketball teams head to nationals in the same year.

SLCC’s women’s basketball team lost a heartbreaker in the SWAC Championship game against Snow, which meant they had to wait to see if they received an at-large bid.

“I would like to show them (her team) off to the country,” says Head Coach Betsy Specketer before the team received the at-large bid. “There are some really, really great teams in the country, and we are one of them. This team deserves the opportunity to compete with the best.”

This will be the third time coach Specketer will lead a team to the NJCAA National Tournament and the No. 12-seed Bruins will gear up to take on the No. 21-seed Lake Region (ND) State (29-4) in the opening round game on Monday, Mar. 17 with tip off at 3:30 MT.

“It’s one at a time just like every other game. There will be some first game jitters. This team has a high IQ, continue what we have done all year get by the first one, and they will definitely compete.” says Speketer. “They will leave heart and soul on the floor they will never be out worked.”

All games at the NJCAA National Tournament will be available for viewing via the NJCAATV live Web stream. The direct link to watch SLCC’s opening contest at NJCAA Nationals is: http://www.ihigh.com/womenbkbchamp/ (Game 4)
