Jacob Nuttall has been in the photo retail industry for 18 years. He opened Acme Camera Company, located in the heart of Sugarhouse at 1993 South 1100 East, in August 2013. The chic camera shop has cameras ranging from plastic toy film cameras to professional digital SLR cameras and lenses.
“We serve students, enthusiasts, emerging professionals and professional photographers,” says Nuttall. “We sell all the film developing materials students need to get started.”
Nuttall wants to get these materials to students at prices they can afford. He even offers students the opportunity to rent equipment for the entire semester.
“We charge $35-45 per semester for 35mm SLR camera kits, including a lens and fresh battery,” says Nuttall.
Acme Camera Company also offers digital SLR camera kits for $125-185 per semester.
For film students, Nuttall also offers film development services.
If you are already equipped with a camera but want to experiment with the latest lens, Acme Camera Company offers great rental deals regularly posted on their Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages. For these specialized deals they only offer a certain amount of slots per item.
“Some items are filled within an hour, others take about a day to fill up,” says Nuttall.
You’ll have to keep your eyes open, but it’s a great way to get experience with professional gear you may not be able to afford right away. Acme Camera Company’s website www.acmecamerarental.com offers an easy way to set up a rental for your next photo shoot. All you have to do is get shooting.
