Men’s basketball: Bruins win third straight game on the road

Zerrion Payton leads Salt Lake Community College to victory over Colorado Northwestern Community College with 23 points in an 89-53 win.

The No. 21-ranked Salt Lake Community College Bruins (21-4, 7-2 SWAC) took on CNCC (7-17, 1-9 SWAC) on the road. The Bruins came out early to score 44 points in the first half and another 45 in the second half as they cruised to a win over their Scenic West Athletic Conference opponent.

The Bruins shot 54 percent from the field, 32 percent from beyond the arc and finished just under 70 percent from the charity stripe.

Sophomore guard Jaden Jackson scored 14 points and freshman forward Neal Monson added 12 points for the Bruins.

SLCC sophomore guard Gary Payton ll contributed nine points and freshman forward CJ Spjute was a factor with his eight points and six rebounds keeping the Bruins road game conference streak alive.

With the win, SLCC remains in second place in the SWAC standings behind their rival No. 2-ranked College of Southern Idaho (22-2, 8-1 SWAC).

The Bruins continue their road trip against in-state opponent Snow College (12-11, 3-6 SWAC) on Saturday, Feb. 8 in Ephraim, UT with tipoff slated for 5 p.m.

The last time these two teams met, SLCC beat the Badgers in a 68-54 win on Dec. 14 in Ephraim and again beat the Badgers at Bruin Arena 87-67 on Jan. 18.
