‘Tis the season to save some money: cool gifts on a student budget

The holidays are creeping up fast. Here are five unique items that will make good Christmas gifts for friends and family. These items aren’t real expensive, but it’s the thought that counts.

Infmetry Universal Cable Clip – $2.50

Phone cable, computer cable, printer cable the list can go on when trying to organize all of the crazy wires that find themselves on your desk. Fortunately, Infmetry has a universal cable clip that only costs $2.50 per six pack.

These colorful clips will make it so you never have to crawl behind the file cabinet ever again to retrieve your printer cable.

The clip uses a light adhesive to clip to the desk, and you just simply slip your cable in. These are a cheap, thoughtful little time saver for anyone’s holiday stocking.

Belkin Conserve Socket – $10

The biggest busts of almost every college student’s bank account are utility bills. These inconsistent bills have tapped many a bank account dry.

Belkin made this cool little contraption for only $10 that automatically turns off the standby power running through that outlet after an allotted time. Set the timer for thirty minutes, three hours or six hours and save power and money on your electricity.

Great for eliminating standby power on things like coffee pots, curling irons and computers. With the conserve socket, it might help students save some of hard earned dollars.

Recycle a Bottle – Plant Nanny – $17

Plants produce oxygen, and look so nice.

The only issue is people are so busy with work, school, and a social life that they forget to water the plants, which then are not “living” for long.

The solution: Recycle a Bottle – Plant Nanny. This item is sold in a four pack on Amazon for $17. Made of ceramic these special stakes turn empty booze bottles into a useful tool that keeps the crops watered.

The Plant Nanny allows seven to ten days between watering plants making maintenance as fun and easy as emptying the bottle.

Recycle a bottle; save the plants.

Google Chromecast – $35

This is the perfect gift for any friend or family member too cheap to pay for cable TV.

Google’s Chromecast is a television industry game changer. Chromecast’s key shaped dongle connects your televisions HDMI port. This dongle allows the user to stream media from apps like YouTube or Netflix wirelessly to your television from your computer or phone.

Retailing for just $35 this little device may soon be known as the killer of cable TV.

Kensington Proximo Bluetooth Trackers – $60

Proximo Bluetooth Trackers are made for those who misplace things. Proximo helps you find your phone, your keys or anything else you attach a tag to. Proximo uses a Bluetooth system consisting of a free app for your smart phone, a key fob ($35) and a keychain tag ($25).

Once programmed, a phone can find valuables either through an alert sound or through a hotter or colder type tracking system.

Proximo sends an alert when something gets left behind, and the Bluetooth signal weakens.

This is a new product with a lot of advantages for those who seem to always lose everything. Enough joy to make anyone’s holiday a good one.

These have been a few different ideas for holiday gifts for loved ones.
