Press [Start] to Game Special: PlayStation 4 and Xbox One: Pick up or wait?

The holidays are fast approaching and the next generation of gaming has arrived at our doorsteps, raising the question: Should you buy a next gen console now or wait?

Most gamers have already made up their mind, but if you’re still deciding then here are some pointers to help with the decision making process.

Three reasons to pick up your next-gen console now

  1. Early Adopter Perks

If you’ve picked up your new systems already, chances are you’re already receiving early adopter perks. Xbox One users get first access to the rebooted “Killer Instinct” and get to practice before anyone else. PlayStation users get access to a freebies like a free month of PS Plus and Music Unlimited, as well as $10 for the PlayStation Store.

  1. Next Gen Exclusives

Most games are going to be released for both generations, but there are exclusives that you can’t get on the previous consoles. Knack for PlayStation 4 and “Killer Instinct” for Xbox One are excellent examples of what’s to come in the future.

  1. The Graphics

That’s what you’re going to be paying for, and if you love good graphics, then it’ll be worth it. Picking up games like “Battlefield 4” and “Assassin’s Creed IV” on a next gen console will not warrant you a new experience, new content or anything else, just a better looking game. Five o’clock shadow has never looked so good.

Three reasons to wait to pick up a next-gen console

  1. The Bugs: software and hardware

There’s going to be a lot of problems at launch. The PlayStation 4 already has a physical defect that blocks the HDMI signal, and while the Xbox One has yet to be released, it’ll be interesting to see how the day one update affects the system.

  1. The Inevitable Price Drop

The cost of entry to the next-gen is higher than ever before, but as the past has proven time and time again, there’s going to be a price drop for the systems. The price drop isn’t just for the system, there’s also a chance the price of games might come down. Wait for a bundle, price drop or even the Game of the Year edition for a game you miss at release.

  1. Your Back Catalog

Chances are that you have a lot of games waiting to be played on your previous gen console. There’s extra content coming for the award winning “The Last of Us,” extra money for “Grand Theft Auto V” players and you might have even bought “Call of Duty Ghosts” already. You might not want to pay more money just to get some fancy graphics for the same game you’ve already invested time into.
