SLCC Talks: Nerdy indulgences

Welcome to the Globe’s SLCC Talks – a new column where the Globe staff answers questions that our readers send in.

Subjects, questions and responses are found online via our Facebook page, Twitter, and our own website at GlobeSLCC.com.

In this edition of SLCC Talks we talk about our inner nerds with the upcoming Comic Con.

With Salt Lake Comic Con approaching soon, what is your favorite nerd indulgence?

Julie Hirschi (Editor in Chief)

My favorite nerd indulgence is anything Doctor Who related. Pretty much any BBC program, such as Sherlock, Merlin and IT Crowd, I completely geek over. But particularly Doctor Who. Yes, I have a sonic screwdriver, a mini TARDIS and Doctor Who attire. Luckily for me, my kids share in my nerdom, so that I can claim that some of the Whovian paraphernalia is theirs. Whenever we watch Doctor Who together, my eight year old dresses up as the eleventh doctor and my six year old, walks around in a gas mask saying “Are you my mummy?”  Yes, parenting, I think I’m doing it right.

Aldo Gomez (Web Editor)

My favorite nerd indulgences come more from Japan than I’d like to admit. I grew up with shows like “Sailor Moon” and “Dragon Ball Z,” so from an early age I had a huge love of anime and it’s something I still indulge in to this day. My indulgence does stretch a little more than just catching the Adult Swim or Toonami shows to actually following the summer and fall line ups of the Japanese release schedule. I don’t stop at just anime though, my nerd indulgences stretch out to video games including tournament play, collecting figures and statues, and collecting my weekly dosage of comic books from my local comic store.

Be sure to ask us your questions online via GlobeSLCC.com,  facebook.com/masscommcenter, and on twitter at @GlobeSLCC. Be sure to use the hashtag #SLCCTalks

Also, be sure to let us know what your favorite nerd indulgence is.
