Ranked 6th in NJCAA polls, the Salt Lake Community College softball team was awarded the No. 2 seed in the 2013 NJCAA National tournament. They intend to leave St. George, UT this year as the top junior college softball team in the country.

The Bruins have been agonizingly close to claiming their first NJCAA softball championship. SLCC finished in the runner-up position in 2011 and 2012, losing to Yavapai College and Chattanooga State, respectively.

SLCC is led by sophomore outfielder Malia Campos, who leads the team with a .458 batting average and 38 stolen bases.

SLCC defeated their first-round opponent, Georgia Perimeter College, in five innings by the score of 9-1. MaCauley Flint gave up one run on two hits, while infielder Whitney Holt went 2-3 at the plate and drove in four runs.

The Bruins face Weatherford College in the second round Thursday, May 16 at 5 p.m. Fans can listen to the live game broadcast via NJCAA-TV.
