The Visual Art and Design department is gearing up for the 2012 Salt Lake Community College Student Art Showcase with its preparatory Poster Contest.

Any SLCC Student can enter. The chosen design will be used to promote the event from Feb. 20 to March 2 at the Taylorsville Redwood and South City campuses.

The SLCC Student Art Showcase Committee will award $100 to the winner.

Design requirements

All pieces must be submitted in 11×17” format with an output of 100% and created in either Adobe InDesign or Adobe Illustrator.

A white border is necessary at .375” for top, left, and right margins, and the bottom needs to have 1 solid inch of white space. Submissions do not require frames.

It is also easier to print images with a 4 Color Process (cmyk: cyan, magenta, yellow, “key”/black) or Pantone Spot Color on white paper, rather than RGB (Red, Green, Blue).

Students are allowed to submit multiple entries, within reason, and each entry must be submitted in duplicate.

It is also important that they be labeled correctly. The piece should include the artist’s name, phone number and email on the back, bottom right hand corner.  Without this information entries will be disqualified

These printouts will not be returned after the decision process.

The data which needs to be included on the poster design follows:

  • “2012 Salt Lake Community College Student Art Showcase
April 6 – 14, Monday through Friday, Noon to 6 PM, Science & Industry Building Atrium
  • Awards Reception  April 6,  7 – 9 PM Student Event Center

Co-Sponsored by Student Life & Leadership, Art & Cultural Events, the INK Group, and The Visual Art & Design Department.
  • ONLINE Submission March 4 through March 14, http://www.slcc.edu/visualart/
Pick-up Date April 20, Noon to 6 PM, Science & Industry Building Atrium
For more information contact Andrew Wilson at 957-4265 / andrew.wilson@slcc.edu
Or the VAD Department Office at 957-3042.”

Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012 is the deadline. Entries can be dropped off at the Taylorsville Redwood Campus Administration Building, in room 326.

The Student Art Showcase itself begins accepting online submissions from March 4 through 14.
