SLCC’s Fashion Institute held its annual Raw Couture Fashion Show this year at the Rose Wagner Theatre in downtown Salt Lake City on April 16.
This fashion show gives graduating students the exciting chance to show off their talent and hard work on the runway in front of a large audience, as well as a panel of judges who award titles such as “best in show,” “creativity in design,” “quality in construction” and “quality in pattern.”
The students follow a theme for their carefully handcrafted garments. Past themes have consisted of color scheme, music selection and a time period of fashion’s past. This year’s collections held the theme “High Style” inspired by lifestyles and attitudes. Each designer creatively constructs four to six complete outfits before proudly watching their debut glamorously displayed down the runway.
With a packed venue, the audience excitedly applauded as charismatic models twirled in voguish, hip-looking attire. Designers were introduced before the respective collections were displayed and re-took the stage afterwards to take a bow. The judges admitted it was a very difficult decision to announce the winners as each designer had shown such artistry.
The awards and winners for this year’s show include:
First Place: Sterling Bitsue for his line “Oh So Chic.”
Second Place: Breana Eck for her line “Modern Victorian.”
Third Place: Emily Nixon for her line “Rive Gauche.”
