Salt Lake Community College’s Student Life and Leadership Association, along with the Fine Arts and Cultural Event Committee, will be hosting their second annual Diversity Exploration Dinner at the Taylorsville Redwood Campus.

The dinner is being held Wednesday, March 2 at 6:30 p.m. in the Oak Room located on the second floor of the Student Center.

The purpose of the dinner is to bring together people of different backgrounds, different ethnicities, and different religious beliefs to socialize and celebrate diversity at the college and throughout the community. Students, faculty, and community members will be able to enjoy the company and the dialogue among people of diverse backgrounds.

“The dinner is to celebrate similarities and embrace our differences, and to honor diversity,” Doctor Abio Ayeliya, Coordinator of Leadership and Diversity said. “We are hoping for people to learn more from different people and work together to promote an inclusive environment at Salt Lake Community College.”

Students, faculty, and community members wanting to attend the Diversity Exploration Dinner need to register by 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2. Interested parties can go to either the Student Life and Leadership office or the Multicultural Initiatives office. These offices can be found at the Taylorsville Redwood Campus and the South City campus.

“Participants will have the opportunity to engage in meaningful, respectful dialogue among people from diverse backgrounds,” Ayeliya said.

Salt Lake Community College Food Services will cater the dinner. The menu will boast meat or vegetarian lasagna, bread sticks and salad. Chocolate cake and carrot cake will be served for dessert.

This is the second year for the Diversity Exploration Dinner. 110 guests were in attendance at last year’s event. Ayeliya is aiming even higher this year, hoping for 120 dinner guests.

More information about the dinner can be found by calling 801-957-3880 or 801-957-3870, or be emailing Justeena.Masina@gmail.com

Ayeliya respectfully asks that all guests are age 14 and above.
