A spoiled child demanding presents is not Christmas. Christmas is way more than getting gifts; it’s giving gifts, showing love, being with the ones who mean the most to you. Good old Saint Nick didn’t start giving presents to random people to buy their love; he did it to show the way life should be, with happiness and caring.
This Christmas what do you want? You want a new IPod and video games? There are way more meaningful things out there. Some people are happy with a card that just states their love for one another. Feelings are gifts that are priceless.
Ally Wisniewski, a former SLCC student, expressed the Christmas attitude “who needs gifts, just be happy for what you do have.”
“My mom and dad would rather receive a hug and kiss than a material gift,” Wisniewski said.
There are those who may be someone less fortunate the others, but that doesn’t mean Christmas should suck.
Finding a friend and showing them appreciation is what Christmas is about. Reach out to a family member and show them love and respect.
Those who are a more fortunate should reach out to the less fortunate. Don’t try to buy them; just make a friend. Become someone who is there for them. Everyone needs a friend and in many cases that is an amazing gift that doesn’t cost. A friendship sometimes can change a person’s life. Support in someone’s life is all they need to accomplish goals. Reach out to your fellow person and become more than a gift.
The Christmas spirit doesn’t sit well with everyone. Some have absolutely nothing. Go down town to the Gateway and look around. There are tons of homeless people just trying to find something to eat and a place to sleep. We all should look at these people and feel their pain. This year do something different, give to them. Donate old cloths and buy food too give it as well.
Imagine the world with more people who would rather give then receive. Many claim they are that way but are they truly. The reaction of one receiving a gift that you gave them can be more than the feeling of receiving a gift you probably don’t need. If we all find it within or selves to help others then karma will eventually find its way back to you.
