The game of the year is almost here. Call of Duty: Black Ops is a highly anticipated game and has many gamers eager to play.
Call of Duty is one of the top online games to ever hit the market. The last installment of Call of Duty was called Modern Warfare 2. This game was a hot item on the market due to the online play. The game featured various guns, characters, “perks” (characters abilities during game play such as “marathon,” which allows your player to sprint non-stop), kill streak rewards, as well as multiple online playing styles. In many peoples’ minds this was the game that made Call of Duty an online sensation. Now with Black Ops on the way people are hoping this online game play will be even more impressive and it’s looking that way.
Black Ops features a new style of getting perks, guns, features on guns, kill streaks, and character styles. In Modern Warfare 2 you earn points by getting kills and accomplishing challenges during game play. You start at level zero and work your way up to level 70. You receive the different guns and equipment at various levels. For example, the claymore bomb is awarded at level 32 and the ACR gun is earned at level 47. Weapon features, such as silencers, red dot sights and others are earned by kills. For example, red dot sight is earned with 25 kills of “X” weapon, and the silencer is earned at 75 kills with “X” weapon. On Black Ops you earn money during game play so you can purchase the weapons and other features you want when you reach the money required for a certain purchase.
SLCC Jake Allan and self-proclaimed Call of Duty expert said, “I’m not sure I like the idea of earning money to buy your equipment…part of the fun was to use what equipment you have before reaching the higher levels. I guess I’ll have to decide when I finally get to play it.”
Bring on the war. Kill streaks are rewards you win by getting three plus kills in a row. For instance, killing five opponents in a row gets a predator missile. This is a missile shot from above that you can control and use to kill more opponents. Now with Black Ops on the way, every gamer is wondering what will be the new kill streak rewards. A new five-kill streak reward is a napalm strike. The strike sends in a jet and it drops napalm bombs on a targeted area. It will kill anyone in the current area as well as set the area on fire for a while, killing anything that comes to close.
All gamers have been wondering what new game modes will be featured. Four of the new match types are called wager matches. These matches are when the players bet money that they will finish top three on the final score board. If they are able to they win a split of the cash that was bet. Another new game mode is called “One in the chamber.” The game starts off where every player has a pistol and one bullet. If you kill a player you get another bullet. You have three lives and you play till there is one person left alive. If you do miss with your bullet you can stab people with your knife. The game mode is being called one of the most intense modes ever featured.
All and all the game has a ton of promise and appears as if it will hold up to everyone’s standards. The game is set to be released Nov. 9 2010. It is rated “M” for mature and is only sold to those above 17 years of age.
