SLCC students beat the crowd and got on board for fall semester by purchasing supplies and textbooks at any SLCC campus bookstore.
The SLCC bookstore stocked its shelves full for fall semester students. The bookstore had a few new ideas up its sleeve this year to keep up with competition.
During the first week of school, students will be given the opportunity to win gift cards to the SLCC book store, or to outside vendors, by drawing a lucky coin from a hat.
“Last semester, before I made my purchase on my books, I was given the chance to draw a lucky coin out of a hat and won a $100 gift card to the book store,” said student Dustin Samuelian. “I put that $100 towards my purchase, it was awesome.”
The SLCC bookstore not only sells textbooks for student courses, but they also sell apparel, giftware, supplies and electronics.
“We supply just about anything you’ll need during your voyage,” said SLCC bookstore Director Steve Ferre. “We sell computer hardware and software, I Pads, paper, note pads, writing instruments and more.”
Can’t afford those hefty prices on textbooks? The SLCC bookstore offers students a lot of different ways to keep it cheap by selling used textbooks, so students aren’t forced to purchase those jaw dropping new textbook prices.
“I have saved myself a lot of money in recent years at SLCC by purchasing used books for some of my classes,” said Samuelian. “If there’s a used copy available why buy new, there’s no point, especially when I get the same amount of cash back when I return the book at the end of the semester.”
The SLCC bookstore gives students the chance to return their textbooks towards the end of the semester and get some cash. Their policy is to buy textbooks back from students at 50 percent of the current new textbook price.
“Books must be the current edition, the right volume number, and must be in tip top condition in order for us to buy them back,” said Ferre.
The SLCC bookstore also has a varied amount of textbooks available to students on eBooks. Students that subscribe can access their textbooks online rather than purchasing a hard copy.
“I’ve had a subscription to a few eBooks while going to SLCC. A large amount of classes that I’ve taken in previous semesters have never covered an entire book,” said student Hanna Rudelich. “eBooks makes it great, I can purchase individual chapters from a particular textbook rather than purchasing the whole book.”
The SLCC bookstore has staff members on board to help students find the right textbook for the right class.
“I always end up taking a huge load of classes each semester and with all those classes I end up having to purchase a lot of books”, said student Nick Wells. “I’d be in the bookstore for hours looking for all my books, but the people at the bookstore make it really convenient and help me find the books I’m looking for so I can get on with the rest of my day.”
The SLCC bookstore also gives students a chance to refund their textbooks in case they purchased the wrong textbook by mistake or decided to drop a class.
“Students are allowed to refund their books for whatever reason for a full refund for the first week of purchase, as long as they’ve kept a receipt,” said Ferre. “After the first week of purchase students are allowed an 80 percent refund, but after the second week no refunds will be given.”
