The Sandbar is open to all college students 21 years of age and over.
All week long Sandbar has different line-ups for different days of the week. Monday nights are Rock Band (video game) nights. The video game is set up on a big screen television and different teams made up of both male and female play against each other. Tuesday night is a rock and alternative formatted night. Wednesdays are formatted for reggae nights. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights have a DJ line-up. Because Sandbar has such a broad demographic, the DJ’s play a bit of everything to target a broad appeal.
“A successful night is a good crowd in here that is enjoying what we have to offer and is having a good time,” said Anthony Garcia.
Garcia is the General Manager of Sandbar and does not consider a successful night by a door count perspective. “A successful night to me is if people leave here and they remember something that was really fun or really different and unique about the Sandbar, I’ll be happy about that,” Garcia said.
Sandbar has been extremely successful since it opened its doors in April of 2009. At least 95 percent of people who enjoy the nightlife in Salt Lake City have experienced Sandbar. The same owner of Lumpy’s Bar and Night Club opened Sandbar to fit a different genre. The Mexican cantina architecture makes Sandbar a unique and different place from the regular Salt Lake City nightclub. Sandbar is a nightclub everyone may attend whether dressed formal or casual. Sandbar offers an outside patio to VIP tables to accommodate anyone. The idea of Sandbar came from Scottsdale, Arizona. In Scottsdale there are many cantina style bars including its very own Sandbar.
“We get students are on a budget so we have super cheap off nights that students can enjoy,” Garcia said.
Some key elements that make Sandbar so different from other nightclubs and bars are the employees. The employees enjoy having fun and taking care of their customers. Bar tenders are well educated in the different alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Not only does Sandbar offer over 20 different tequilas, a full menu of food is also available.
Sandbar also hires college students 21 and older. Individuals applying for a job at Sandbar don’t necessarily have to have bar experience. The job positions at Sandbar are servers, cocktail waitresses, bartenders, and security. As long as the applicant has a fun personality to show customers a good time, the staff at Sandbar will take as many steps as necessary to train new employees.
Sandbar is located at 122 Pierpont Avenue in Salt Lake City, UT. The business hours are Monday through Saturday 7 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.
