Now that spring has finally arrived, it’s time for some new looks. The first instruction to get this season started off with a bang is to begin right here by reading this article. There are a few things that you shoppers will want to consider for your fresh new wardrobes. Look for sales. Look for current trends -mixing them up and adding your own twist of course. And finally, read up; whether it’s a blog, magazine or this article, there are great tips everywhere.
Girls, it’s time to put your femininity in the driver’s seat. Even if you’re a tough chick and girly is too much, keep reading; these tips are great for all girls. Starting from the top, pigtails are going to be big. Curly or straight, they put the fun in any look. Emphasis on lips is key this season and all that’s needed is a punch of red. It doesn’t matter if your going for classy or sassy, the red lip rule is one you’ll want to consider following.
Leaving cosmetics behind, it’s time to really put the zest in your closet. Leopard, sequins, beads, gems -giant gems that is-, fringe and busy patterns are all candidates for getting on the best-dressed list. All of these can be the centerpiece of your look and pair wonderfully with neutral accessories and of course, jeans. Clear plastics are going to be found in accessories like glasses, purses and watches. I also encourage a lot of white clothing; whether it’s an eyelet dress or a chiffon tiered skirt, you’re bound to look great. Of course a great fallback is denim, it’s always in style. This season, I expect to see a lot of lighter denim both in color and weight. Don’t prove me wrong please, this is such a great look, denim can be made into almost anything and look amazing.
Now time to show the guys how to stay cool. Keep your eyes out for some dog tags. Dog tags are a super simple way to put some flash into your look. A great place to go is your local military surplus store where you can even customize what’s written on them. After your sleek new dog tag is around your neck, you can still keep things current and trendy with a spiffy new bow tie. Call me crazy, but I’ve got some backup (Tommy Hilfiger, Tom Ford and Dolce & Gabbana.) This trend is definitely worth a try and it’s got great versatility. Now, something I suggest not to get would be a plaid short. The first ten years of this century have been enough. Let’s change from frumpy plaid to strong bold shorts that are not baggy, but more slim and narrow.
With these suggestions, it’s time to get creative. Only you can decide what makes it into the shopping bags this spring. Remember to look for sales; you’ll want to be saving money for fall semester already. Be careful with BOGO sales (buy one get one half off). It seems like everyone offers them, and if you do the math, it’s really only 25% off the entire purchase. Just make sure the sale is totally worth it. Both men and women may want to keep their eyes out for cardigans on sale that will come in handy on cooler days. Look for sale denim from the fall; turn them into cutoffs and you’re ready to go.
With all these bulky layers like coats and jackets coming off, there will be a lot of room for accessories and there will be accessory sales everywhere. How about this season you get thrifty and mix and match by finding the perfect bauble at a second hand store. A shop like Misc. in the Broadway neighborhood in Salt Lake would work or even take a stab at making your own. I can assure you a quirky accessory will get a lot of attention.
If none of these suggestions are appealing, read about fashion and style. Every Thursday, the New York Times will print “Thursday Styles” and it’s free in the Redwood Student Center. Read magazines. They have so many tips form the most extravagant and expensive to the cheap and nifty. Blogging has taken the fashion scene by storm and can provide a great deal of help. Bottom line is, this spring you are in total control. Read, then shop and save. This spring it’s time to look your best, and you will.
