Dear Readers,
I’ve wanted to be a writer since the first time I held a pen. I started my own magazine when I was 12 and it’s been my life long goal to work for the New York Times or National Geographic.
I’m living with my grandmother because my family barely has enough money to stay a float. The only reason I have enough money to go to college without going in debt is because of the tuition waiver I get working as an editor on the Globe.
The Globe has also opened doors into my profession. After one semester of working as a reporter for the Globe, I got offered a job writing for a website. I am also lined up for an interview at Deseret News.
This newspaper has meant more to me than I can really convey. And there are more people in this school who are in my same situation. It may be cheesy, but this is what college is all about, opening doors that seem locked, and reaching for the sky. Please support the Globe and write a letter to the editor and/or your student senator.
Sincerely,
Elise Bassett
