Valentine’s Day was last week, and not everybody enjoyed it. Some people like me hate this holiday for many reasons: recently broke up, not having a boyfriend or a girlfriend, or other people who just think that you can celebrate love every day you don’t really need a special day.
In fact, Valentine’s Day really exasperates me, because I began to think about what kind of unnecessary present I should buy for my loved one and what kind of stupidity or surprise should I prepare for him. I sincerely believe that it’s a waste of money. Also, sometimes I don’t understand why people get so crazy about that. I remember that when I was single, I easily got mad around Valentine’s Day. My best friend used to call me and explain all the wonderful plans that she had prepared with her boyfriend; I carefully listened to her and wished her a good Valentine’s Day. She felt sorry for my ignorance and antipathy for the so call “love day”. That sound sad right? Don’t get me wrong, it is not just antipathy, it just a disdain for this commercial “love day”. I based my feeling on the fact that I appreciate and value every single day I spend with my significant one. I show him love and caring on a daily base. I don’t need a February 14 to testify and acknowledge my love for him. Valentine’s Day is just a façade, another day for a Hollywood movie, just another retail day. Let’s celebrate “I love you” day right after the Christmas Day that we turn into commercial day. Yeah love him [her] and just disgrace and hate him [her] the following day till February 14. If you love somebody, you don’t need a day during the year to materialize or show how much the person means to you. We tend to ignore our love ones but we celebrate love every day.
I concede the fact that fact this holiday has its roots back in A.D. 496 when it was established by Pope Gelasius I it’s traditionally a holiday held to celebrate love affection by offering flowers and confectionery.
Even when you checking all the specials networks like Facebook, Twitters, or MySpace, you have an overdose of love poems you receive a lot of greetings cards from your friends and everybody is wishing you a happy valentine day. I wish people can celebrate love more often and realized that they don’t need a special day.
