SLCC softball bats on fire

The Bruins played in Yuma, Arizona Feb. 4-6. The bats of the SLCC Bruin softball team stayed hot scattering 43 hits in three wins against Arizona Western 13-7, Central Arizona 16-1 and Dawson 15-0.

In the first game of the day Arizona Western gave Salt Lake a run for their money going eight innings before Salt Lake exploded for seven runs in the eighth. The Salt Lake defense committed five fielding errors to keep Western in the game. Reilee O’Brien picks up the win throwing five innings allowing four hits while striking out four batters. In the eighth inning Katelyn Elliott hit a bases clearing triple finishing the game with five RBI’s. Kylee Brinkerhoff finished 2-4 with a triple.

Salt Lake jumped on Central Arizona early and never looked back. Jordyn McDonald threw four innings stinking out six. Cyd Allen and Katelyn Elliott both finished the game 2-3 with a triple and four RBI’s and Stacie Graham was 2-2 with a triple.

In the final game of the triple header Salt Lake faced Dawson CC. Sarah Clark allowed one hit in the 15-0 win. Kylee Brinkerhoff was 2-2 with a home run and

On Feb. 5, the Salt Lake Community College Bruin Softball team extended their winning streak to 11 games. The Bruins defeated El Paso (9-0) and Eastern Arizona (5-1) at the Great Western Shootout.

Sarah Clark picked up the win over El Paso by striking out seven batters over six innings. Kylee Brinkerhoff finished the game 3-3 and Kylee Bufton was 1-2 with a triple and three RBI’s. In game two Salt Lake faced Eastern Arizona, with the game tied at one in the sixth inning Cyd Allen blasted a grand slam to put Salt Lake up 5-1. Jordyn McDonald threw seven innings allowing 3 hits while striking out seven.

Saturday, Feb. 6, Reilee O’Brien led SLCC Softball to their 12th win of the season. O’Brien threw six innings allowing 2 hits and was 2-2 with a 3 RBI triple. Salt Lake is undefeated in 2010 with a 12-0 record.

The team collected 13 hits with Kylee Brinkerhoff going 2-4 with a triple and three RBI’s. Katelyn Elliott was 2-3 at the plate and Cyd Allen was 2-4 with a double.

The Bruins (12-0) will open conference play on Wednesday February 10th against Western Nevada in St George, UT.
