Salt Lake Community College is known to many high school graduates, as well as international students, for helping to get a leg up on the way to a four-year university. Perhaps SLCC is best known for its rather well kept secrets per-campus. SLCC has a number of major campuses, all equally valued for their own unique qualities, appealing to a variety of future and current students.
Taylorsville-Redwood Campus4600 S Redwood Road, Salt Lake City, UT 84130
Everybody knows the Taylorsville-Redwood Campus. Seemingly the “main campus,” it is purported to have a larger bookstore, the café of Bruin Bites, the Lifetime Activities Center, and also for the variety of generals courses offered at this location. Stop by the Language Center located on the fourth floor of the Technology Building to find a variety of books and tapes to help international students’ with their studies. Also, check it in to traveling or the Study Abroad Program. Sports enthusiasts can delight in the SLCC men’s and women’s basketball and women’s volleyball teams by attending the sporting events held at the Taylorsville-Redwood Campus.
Sandy Center9400 South 830 East, Sandy, Utah 84094
Sandy Center Campus, nestled at the back of the Sandy Village in an old movie house resides among family oriented restaurants and businesses. This campus is small and provides quick and easy access for many working students. The Sandy Center has a small book and snack store in Suite B. From Mexican fare to sandwiches, and even ice cream, there are several places to grab a quick bite before or after class. However, despite its strategic location, there has been talk of the Sandy Center closing.
Jordan Campus3491 W 9000 S, West Jordan, UT 84088
Located at Jordan Campus is the Applied Technology Center, where technological based courses from criminology to physical therapy are located. The Health Sciences Center provides a single location for health sciences studies including Medical Assistant, Radiologic Tech, Pharmacy Tech, Occupational Therapy and Bio Tech. Cate Field is also located in the northwest corner. This is where SLCC Bruins baseball team plays.
Miller Campus9750 S 300 W, Sandy, UT 84070
The Miller Campus was donated by the late Larry H. Miller, owner of the Utah Jazz, Salt Lake Bees, and a number of other businesses throughout the Intermountain West. His generous donation has given a home to the Culinary Institute and has also provided classrooms for other areas of study such as legal secretarial, digital media technology, real estate appraisal, and public safety/criminal justice.
South City Campus1575 S State Street, Salt Lake City, UT 84115
South City Campus has been part of the SLCC since 1992 and is the site for the Center for New Media, which will open Fall 2011. The CFNM will bring Digital Media Design Applied Technology, Communication, Broadcasting, Animation, Visual and Art Design, Digital Technology and Performing Arts to the South City Campus. A large majority of English and Anthropology classes are taught here. A noted benefit to the South City Campus is The Grand Theatre, a treasure to both SLCC students and the community at large. Grand Theatre is known for its beautiful and original architecture. This spring Having Our Say, Eurydice and Bingo are among the performances at The Grand.
