The rising costs of college puts a bigger strain on a student budget. At Salt Lake Community College, students can combat some of these costs by getting extra help with their studies for free.

The Tutoring and Learning Center offers a variety of workshops and services to help SLCC students gain the skills necessary to accomplish their goals.

“The Tutoring and Learning Center follows the mission and goals of Salt Lake Community College, through promoting student success and access,” says Lori Reagan, learning center coordinator for the North Region.

Individual and group tutoring options

Students may visit Tutoring and Learning Centers on a walk-in basis to get help from certified tutors. Multiple classmates can take part in small group sessions.

One-on-one appointment-based tutoring sessions are also available, giving the student an individual learning experience at no cost.

Academic Literacy Center

The Academic Literacy Center assists students who are learning the English language. ESL students work with tutors to improve their speaking and writing skills through various exercises. The Academic Literacy Center also provides one-on-one tutoring.

College Success Workshops

College Success Workshops are a series of seminars that teach students how to be more efficient both in and outside the classroom. The workshops are held throughout the year at multiple campuses. Topics include time management, note taking, library research and more.

Online tutoring

Online tutoring is available to any SLCC student. Math, English and writing are three subjects normally offered through the online portal. This form of tutoring may be more convenient for students who have travel or schedule conflicts, since help can be obtained from anywhere with Internet access.

With free resources available for all students, SLCC is paving the way for success not only in education, but success in life.

“We have seen a tremendous amount of success from students who take advantage of SLCC’s learning centers and resources,” says Reagan. “We have seen countless students who come to us with a failing grade and end the semester with As and Bs. We are helping students gain confidence and develop study habits they’ll carry with them for life.”
