The Salt Lake Community College Women’s Volleyball team faced off against the Casper T-Birds at the Pizza Hut Invitation in Sterling, Colorado.

Set One:

SLCC played a back and forth game, but with the scored tied at 11, Bailee Kendall became one person wrecking crew. Her kill, a Casper error, and a service ace by Sequoia Lofton started a 9 point run that also included two more kills by Kendall, two kills by Hannah Wade, and a beautiful shot by Janessa Koelliker that found a huge hole in the defense. The Bruins end up winning the set 25 to 15.

Set Two:

The Bruins took a 5 to 1 lead behind a Carol Grasso kill and two Lofton aces. The T-birds never got closer than 5 with Kendall and Koelliker making the most noise. The set ended 25 to 18.

Set Three:

The Bruins dug themselves a nasty hole with Casper pushing the score to 2 to 8. Kendall took control with three kills, a block and another point that made the score 7 to 10. Grasso added a kill to get the score 8 to 10.

The Bruins got the set tied at 11, and it was back and forth for the rest of the set. Grasso came up with a couple of kills and an ace to put the score at 16 to 14, but Casper came back to tie the score at 21.

Grasso again put the ball down twice, and Baylie Henrie served up an ace to make the score 24 to 21. The T-birds continued to fight but were put away on a Grosso score. The final score – 25 to 23.

The announcer gave Player of the Game honors to Lofton for her work in the first set, where she was part of the huge 10 point run as the server, and the second set, where she was part of the 5 point run as the server.

Up next will be the second of two back to backs this time against Northeastern JC at 11 a.m. View the game.
