Valentines for Veterans

Valentines for Veterans is a yearly opportunity for Salt Lake Community College students and staff to support veterans.

Although the drive was last week, there is still time to get involved in this project organized by SLCC Veterans Office Supervisor, Darlene Head-Goldman.

The Valentines for Veterans group gathers small donated items that can be shipped easily such as candy, socks, notebook paper and pencils, which will be given to homeless veterans who live here or refugees abroad in places like Nepal and Budapest.

The group will be collecting donations, money or items such as clothing and furniture, through Thursday, Feb. 18. Valentine donations can be dropped off in the Student Center at the Taylorsville Redwood Campus, as well as the South City Campus in room W 137-D. Students were able to buy and donate traditional heart-shaped Valentines for $1 last week.

Donations go to not only Salt Lake Community College but also to the local Veterans Hospital, as well as homeless shelters and refugee centers. Dollar donations will go to Operation Military Kids, to help children whose parents are currently deployed or will be deployed in the near future.
