On Thursday June 28 Student Life and Leadership (SLL) will present a “Movie Under the Stars” free for students, families and the community at the Taylorsville Redwood Campus on the west amphitheater lawn.

SLL will screen “Mirror Mirror”, starring Lily Collins as Snow White and Julia Roberts as the queen based on the fairy tale Snow White. It is rated PG for some fantasy action and mild rude humor. SLL will also offer free popcorn, pizza and drinks.

“We usually, on movie nights like this, get a lot of community members,” said Brandi Mair, coordinator of student activities at the Taylorsville Redwood Campus. “It’s our way of not only doing programming for the summer students, which is a student population that gets largely forgotten when it comes to programs, but it’s also to have something for the general community as well.”

Several community outdoor movies are going on throughout Salt Lake during the summer. “Movie Under the Stars” at the Utah State Capitol is kicking off this weekend with “Puss in Boots” on Friday, June 29 and will be catered by SLCC’s Culinary Arts Program.

Salt Lake City has been showing free movies at different parks every Fridays in June through July 13. This Friday they will be showing “The Sandlot” at Riverside Park.

The Sundance Film Institute will be showing free independent films at the Red Butte Garden amphitheater Wednesday nights. The next film on July 11 will be the 2008 Sundance documentary “CSNY/Déjà Vu” directed by Neil Young, about the group Crosby Stills and Nash.

Gallivan Center will begin their “Monday Night Movie” series in July showing “Airport” as this year’s theme is “70’s Disaster Movies”. Snowbird will be showing favorite movies from the 80s and 90s every Friday night from June until August on the Plaza Deck. This Friday will be a showing of “E.T.: the Extra-Terrestrial”.

Many local communities and neighborhoods also offer movies in the park. Check with your community organizations for details. As with most outdoor theaters, movies begin at dusk. Bring blankets or low seating chairs for comfort.
