Glitter in the air

Glitter layered the sidewalk at The Great Saltair last Friday as Ke$ha graced the stage with her presence. The original venue for Ke$ha’s performance was In the Venue; however, the tickets sold out quickly and the venue was changed to The Great Saltair. The bigger venue accommodated additional tickets and once again the concert sold-out.

When first arriving to the concert, your first thought may have been along the lines of “I may never get in.” The line was long enough to wrap around Saltair a few times. When spectators started piling in, they found themselves inside, pushing their way to a spot in hope of a great view of the stage.

When Beardo came on stage to open for Ke$ha, the crowd went crazy because it meant that the party was beginning. Everyone started to dance and for those who were old enough, the drinking began. Once Beardo was done with his show, Ke$ha came on and you could feel the love and the drama begin.

For a short person like myself, the concert was just a place to dance with some friends because you had to be really pushy to get a look at the stage. Luckily I met Michael, a tall guy nice enough to stop his dancing to lift me up so I could get a glimpse of the party that was going on – on stage. This is when I felt the love.

I felt the drama when some guy, there with his girlfriend (let’s just call him Steve), had a little too much to drink. He was pushing Michael’s boyfriend out of the way so he couldn’t see. Michael’s boyfriend would then push his way back to the place he was once before. Steve then put Michael’s boyfriend in a chokehold and was stopped before anything else could happen (by a much bigger guy named Joey).

This concert was so much different from others that I have been to, mainly because I have never been to a concert that was fully general admission. The venue was wall-to-wall packed.

Ke$ha concertgoers were dressed in glitter and sleazy clothes. When I did get to see the stage, Ke$ha was dressed in what looked like a one piece swimming suit and a bunch of masked dancers. There was also a costume that looked like a banana and male body part.

Ke$ha has a good voice for live concerts. I was expecting her live voice to be a lot different, but it is pretty much the exact same as her recorded music.

If you want to go to a Ke$ha concert or any concert with all general admission, I would suggest going a few hours before the doors open so you can get a good spot to see the stage. If you are just there to hang out with friends and dance, then go a bit later.

It was a good concert despite all of the drama and the fact I couldn’t really see the stage. It was a good chance to hang out with friends and dance.
